Exception Rules (For Test/Assessment)

You can create some exception rules against each question. In general, there are two main categories of exception rules, namely, multiple choices and fixed text lengths.

As for the exception rules of multiple choices, you may want to detect a question in which more than one answer choices, or on the contrast, none of answer choices are made.

TestAnyTime® V3.7 provides two corresponding verfication mechanisms against the exception rules of multiple choices, namely, Multiple and Missing.

As for the exception rules of fixed text lengths, you may want to check whether candidates have written as many characters as they were told or instructed.

To create the exception rules of multiple choices:

  1. Click the Test Design button and then select the Options tab:

You can set different exception rules for each question there:
  • Multiple -- If select Multiple for Q_1, TestAnyTime® V3.7 will record a tag everytime when more than one answer choices are detected in Q_1 (that means only single answer choice is allowed for Q_1).

  • Missing -- If select Missing for Q_1, TestAnyTime® V3.7 will also record a tag everytime when no answer choice are detected in Q_1 (that means no missing answer choice is allowed for Q_1).

To create the exception rules of fixed text length:

  1. Click the Test Design button and then select the Question tab:

  2. A Test Questions window opens. In the Validation tab, there are several options available to make. First of all, however, we often leave the Information Type unchanged:

  3. In line with the Name of Candidate, we select All Characters for the Data Type:

  4. To set an exception (or validation) rule for a fixed text length, we select = in the Comparison field, and then enter the length of the text. We enter 4 for our Name of Candidate here. Then click OK to leave:

Note: To delete an exception (or validation) rule, double click the number of the rule and then click (Y) in the confirmation dialog:

Remember saving upon leaving whenever any modification has been made in Test Design.
